Your life is already good.
What if it had a European chapter?
We're Keith and Caroline — Americans in our late 60s who gave up our home four years ago and have been living between Europe, the UK and the US ever since. This is calm, honest guidance for spending 30 days or more in Europe. Not a holiday. Not a relocation. Something better.

We're slightly ahead on a path you want to walk.
What we wish someone had told us when we were sitting at our kitchen table wondering if this was actually possible — and whether it could be us.
The real numbers
What it actually costs to rent in the South of France for a month. What groceries cost in Lisbon. What surprises people when the bills arrive — and what's cheaper than they expected.
The mechanics that work
Schengen rules without the panic. How housesitting actually works after sixty. Healthcare when you have no fixed address. The boring details that make the whole thing possible.
The active life, intact
Hiking, skiing, cycling, yoga, fly fishing. Keith found every trail before breakfast. We rode the cols of the Alps and Pyrenees together. This life doesn't cost you the things you love — it multiplies them.
Two Americans, two passports, and a different way to live.
We left Florida in 2019 with $6,000 between us and drove west to Seattle. Within weeks of arriving on Bainbridge Island we'd discovered TrustedHouseSitters and started caring for other people's animals — a year of beautiful homes we could never have afforded to rent.
Then Covid changed everything. We rented a "month-to-month" apartment we thought we'd be in for a few weeks. We were there two years.
On May 1st 2022 we moved out, and we haven't stopped moving since. Sixty-plus housesits. Long rentals across England, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Israel. We hold UK and US passports between us and have lived across three continents — which gives us a perspective on Europe most American travel creators simply don't have.
